Every workplace has its own expectation of how staff and managers must conduct themselves whilst being employed by the company. Areas such as: how to perform, what standards to expect, how to treat all individuals they come in contact with while representing that company and to do deliver their work through the processes and procedures established by the company to achieve the best results for the business - always mindful of the highest attention given to OH&S and the safety of all who work there.
Every company is required to possess a Policies and Procedures Manual so that the company guidelines and expectations are clearly documented and accessible for all staff to read and understand. (This Manual will also be asked for should a Workcover or WorkSafe representative visit the site, either on a random basis, or have need to address a safety issue.) The information in this manual forms part of the employee’s initial induction so that, should a dispute arise down the track, the issue can be sorted out quickly and effectively for all concerned.
The Policies and Procedures Manual is a mandatory requirement set out in the OH&S Act also. (DJWM, through this processs, can also create your company’s OH&S structure with relation to the OH&S Act.) It is imperative to have this in place from a company responsibility point of view but it is also extremely practical to ensure the ongoing smooth running of the organization. The Manual is set out using Quality Control documentation format so that it is treated as a “work in progress” document and can be changed, altered, updated and amended to grow with the company to reflect new expectations, initiatives and processes.
